#NewsAlert: Members of the UN Security Council (#UNSC) to receive a briefing on the humanitarian crisis in #Tigray on Tuesday June 15. The Briefing will take place under Informal Interactive Dialogue (IID) format. Two sources from the UNSC told #AddisStandard that the session was scheduled after #Kenya withdrew its earlier objection.

Mark Lowcock, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator and Ambassador Taye Atske Selassie, Ethiopia's Ambassador to the UN, are expected to brief members of the Security Council.
Speaking at the US-EU high level meeting today, Mr. Lowcock said "there is famine now" in Tigray. With regard to humanitarian impediments, he cited 131 latest incidents, including detention & assault of aid workers. Of the 131, 50 are by Eritrean forces, 54 by Ethiopian forces, 4 by a combination of the two, 21 by #Amhara militias, & 1 by Tigrayan opposition forces.
US Special Envoy for the HoA Jeffrey Feltman on his part said Tigray is "on the agenda" of #G7Summit tomorrow. He also said that the UNSC should recognize the issue & cited Resolution 2417 in the context of starvation being used as a weapon of war. "It's shameful that so far there has not been a public session."
